I will admit my use case was wrong in this instance, however the sft25r will still have far more "sustained" throw, the die is half the size of sft40 and even smaller than 42r to my knowledge, it has far more candela per watt if that was a metric. Also the 42r phosphor layer is unfortunately more brittle than all the other luminous emitters of sft series that I've tried. The tir lens in m21h damaged the phosphor but the led is still working with slight tint shift. Best use case for this led is in large reflector lights with more thermal mass and big batteries , the 25r is far superior as a thrower led. The 42r is less throwy than sft40, much bigger hotspot in the same lights tir/reflector based when compared to sft40, it also uses 2amp extra, I'm not a fan, sft40 is still king very well balanced, 25r will outhrow 40/42r efficiently too, the sft-12 might be a decent contender but lacks the brightness. For larger reflector based lights like l21b I would choose 42r over 25r any day, but in tir lens or smaller hosts it doesn't make any sense.
